William de Botheby, 5th son.

He was a Monk of Peterboro' Monastery, and greatly assisted his brother Adam, Abbot of Peterboro'.

1337,August 24. Westminster. Exemption for life of William de Botheby from being put on Assizes, Juries or Recognisances, and from appointment as Mayor, Sheriff, Coroner and other Bailiffs, etc., of the King against his will.
1338,May l. He was Master of St. Leonards Hospital, York; he was also Prebend of York at above date.

REGINALD DE BOTHEBY-9th son.

1316, November 6. Acolite appointed Rector of St. Nicholas, Hertford, upon the death of the former Rector, Geoffrey Sect, by Bishop Oalderly, and he held the rectory until 9th May 1327, when he resigned. Patrons: Prior and Convent of Winelsford.

1327, February 3. Westminster. Presentation of Simon de Berrile, Chaplain to the Church of St. Nicholas, Hertford, void by the resignation of Reginald de Botheby and in the Kings gift by reason of the Priory of Winelsford being in his hands.

1327, January 18. Presentation of Reginald de Botheby, Chaplain to the Church of Dodyington in Diocese of Lincoln.

1311. Licence to Henry de Botheby, Rector of Stanhope of absence for one year to attend the Schools as follows
1312, February 17. Admitted to Holy Orders.
1313, December 12. Commission to repair the defects of the Church of Stanhope.
1312, April 12. The King writes a letter to the Bishop for the Rector of Stanhope.
1312, July 1. The King's writ to the Bishop for Henry de Botheby.
1313, February 15. The King's writ of Supersedeas for Henry de Botheby.
1316, August 26. Protection, with clause nolueris, for one year for Henry de Botheby of the Church of Stanhope.

THOMAS DE BOTHEBY, 1st son of Thomas and Alicia.

Married Alicia, an heiress who brought him lands in Willoughby and Tattershall. She died 1380 and her estate was escheated in that. year, viz: Welton, Willoughby, Tattishall Skirbeek, 201- redditis 4 Bovats terre et Co. Lincoln redditis 4 Bovats terre et Co. Lincoln Welton unum messuage et 2 Bovat terr.

John de Botheby, Chancellor of Ireland, 2nd son of Thomas and Alicia. Born at Ryehill 1339 Baptised on the Feast of the Purification of the Virgin Mary.

Ratification of a Releare in Mortmain by John de Clavering to Master John de Botheby. Rector of the Church of Ryton of divers lands, meadows, and pastures called "Spechines on the south side of the Tyne near Ryton.
1371. A messenger, William Harding, was sent by Ed. III. with a letter of Privy Seal of Appointment into Yorkshire to John de Botheby as Chancellor of Ireland on 8th march, for which he (Harding) received the sum of œ1 as wages for the delivery of six letters.

1382, June 18. Westminster Commission of Array to Robert de Plessyngton, John Constable of Halsham, Robert de Hilton, John de Botheby of Rihill and others in the parts of Holdernesse, Co. York.
1382, July 10. Westminster, Commission to John de Botheby and others to enquire whether the Priory of Walton has acquired without license any lands in the County of York contrary to the Statute of Mortmain.

He was heir to his cousin Nicholas, and surviving his brother Thomas was by virtue of a feoffment Lord of Botheby, which Lordship passed from him to the heirs of Sir T. Pagnell and Agnes de Botheby his wife, absolutely.

His will is in the York Registry.
He was appointed Rector of the Church of Kayngham Foulstone at the presentation of Hugh de Glanville to the Church of Easington, so it was determined by Abbot Hugh to effect the appropriation of the Church of Kayngham with Sir John de Botheby, Rector, but from their want of means to purchase his immediate resignation he held or retained possession of it until nearly five years after the appropriation had been granted by the Archbishop of York.

SIR ROBERT DE BOTHEBY.

Suceeded to the Lincolnshire estates, and had a daughter Agotha, who married her cousin Theobald.

SIR JOHN DE BOTHEBY.

Son of Sir Thomas and Alicia,, was heir of his uncle the Chancell or of Ireland ;and had a son Theobaldus.

Nicholas, son of Robert and Margeria.
Died without issue, and his estates reverted to his cousin Thomas de Botheby.
And after this Man and Yeare 1 finde not in the writings any more mention made of the Botheby's.-Robert Saunderson.

SIR THEOBALDUS DE BOTHEBY.

Married his cousin Agatha, daughter of Sir Robert de Botheby.
Lord of Melton on Dearne, Co. York:, Governor of Pontefract Castle, which he defended with great gallantry for the Lancastrians during the civil war of the Roses.
He had the Lordship of Botheby and several other places in Lincolnshire, and land in Leicestershire.

Their eldest son and successor married Maud, daughter of Sir Thomas Fitzwilliam of Maplethorpe.

Had two daughters, his co-heiresson, who both married, 7 Hen..VII. 1493, Jane to George Enderly, Esq., and Elizabeth to Francis Fotherby, Esq., and with them most of the estates passed from the Boothbys.
